My family and I recently enjoyed a delightful getaway at the Montage Palmetto Bluff resort , a fantastic travel destination on the coast of South Carolina. Our visit was especially exciting as we had recently adopted a pair of hound dogs from nearby Bluffton and decided to make the trip a combination site visit (we were working on this beautiful design-build project for a client on property) and family vacation when the time came to collect our sweet pups.

Located along a stretch of the Lowcountry between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, the natural beauty in and around the Palmetto Bluff’s 20,000 acre community is absolutely stunning.
The unique property features beautiful walking and biking trails, peaceful river views, a picturesque chapel, and several bridges my kids loved exploring. After spending our days checking out the property’s many wonders, we enjoyed some truly amazing sunsets that made for a perfect end to each day (they also do s’mores around the firepits most evenings, weather permitting).
The food was excellent for adults but it was still approachable enough for the kids. We went over to the village to eat waterfront at River House Friday night (the kids gave the pizza 5 stars and my husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our dishes). On Saturday night, we opted for Octagon followed by a nightcap in the cozy library, browsing through the books and playing card games.

While this would have made for an idyllic couple’s or adult getaway, there was plenty to do to keep our kids engaged and make the visit memorable for them, as well. Bike riding around the property is a must and they make renting easy in the village. On top of that, all around us were stunning sights like live oaks draped in moss which make it hard not to stop and take it all in every few feet!
We also spent time in the game room and exploring the treehouses on the property.
We were there in the early spring when it was still a bit too chilly to use the beautiful pool but we took full advantage of the riverfront hot tub.
As far as the accommodations are concerned, we found them to be spacious yet cozy and comfortable for all ages.

All in all, our stay was an unforgettable experience. From its unique natural beauty to its thoughtful amenities and world-class (not to mention Southern!) hospitality, there truly was something special about this place that our family won’t soon forget.
